1 dead, 3 injured in Lonoke County wreck

A 79-year-old Cabot man has died and three other people were injured from a two-car wreck that occurred Friday morning in Lonoke County, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report.

The accident happened about 7:44 a.m. in wet and rainy conditions, the report states.

Police said Conway resident William Sellers, 20, was traveling south in 1994 Nissan truck on Arkansas 5 when Sellers crossed the centerline into the northbound lane to avoid a tow truck that was loading another vehicle on the highway's shoulder.

Sellers' vehicle collided with a 2007 Toyota Avalon that was driven by 58-year-old Cabot resident Sheila Smith, authorities said.

Ernest Smith, a passenger in the Avalon, was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m., the report states. Smith, Sellers and 11-year-old Vilonia boy also were taken to other local hospitals to be treated for unspecified injuries.

Smith's death marks the 434th fatality in traffic accidents on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary reports.
