Police have arrested Marcus Halton, 22, Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 in the shooting death of a Pine Bluff man earlier this week.

Police have arrested a suspect Thursday in the shooting death of a Pine Bluff man earlier this week.

After a brief barricade was put up at an undisclosed residence Thursday morning, Pine Bluff Police Sgt. David DeFoor said, police apprehended Marcus Halton, 22, on suspicion of capital murder.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported that 47-year-old George Haney was shot in the chest about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday while driving his white Chevrolet pickup at the intersection of 11th Avenue and Spruce Street. Haney had traveled more than a block before crashing into a tree at 1020 S. Hazel St., according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have been searching for a tall, slim, black man with a goatee who was wearing a military-style jacket at the time of the shooting.

After less than an hour of questioning, DeFoor said, Halton was arrested late Thursday morning pending capital murder charges. Prosecutors will likely file for a probably cause hearing Friday morning, DeFoor said.
