Double the trouble, double the love

Once the ultrasound reveals a second, unexpected baby, the shock sets in. Phrases like “family planning” are rendered meaningless. Mother Nature has plans of her own, writes Melissa Tucker in Family.

“Congratulations! You won the freak-of-nature lottery and got twins,” says Sarah Orsborn, 28, of her reaction to the ultrasound’s findings. She was dumbfounded that her first pregnancy would result in two babies, but her pediatrician husband had a different reaction.

“He leaned over and squeezed my hand with tears in his eyes and said, ‘You’re gonna get so big,’” Orsborn recalls with a laugh.

And the Orsborn’s aren’t alone — since 1980 a woman’s chances of having twins has risen by 76 percent. See Wednesday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for more about this growing trend.
