Man taking out trash robbed of phone, shot at

A 26-year-old Little Rock man was chased back into his apartment Tuesday by a gunman who tried to force his way in, fired once and then made off with the man's cell phone.

It happened about 11:40 a.m. as the victim was taking out his trash from an apartment in the 2200 block of South Louisiana Street.

The victim told police a man sitting on a chair downstairs from the residence said "you finally opened your door," pulled out a gun and ran toward him, according to a Little Rock Police Department report.

The victim returned to his apartment, where he twisted his knee, cut his finger and dropped his phone while trying to physically hold the door closed as the gunman attempted to get inside, the report said.

At one point, the assailant put a handgun through a narrow opening in the door and fired one round. The victim wasn't hit.

After the gunshot, the man grabbed the victim's cell phone and ran off, police said.

The robber, who the victim reported he had seen before, is described as a black man who stood 6 feet tall, weighed about 150 pounds and wore a black coat and pants.
