Earnings report

Companies reporting quarterly earnings Thursday included:

Altria Group Inc., the tobacco company, a profit of $1.39 billion, or 70 cents a share, up from $657 million, or 32 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 6.6 percent to $4.8 billion. Shares fell 42 cents to close at $35.96.

Boston Scientific Corp., the medical device maker, a loss of $5 million, or break-even per share, compared to a loss of $664 million, or 48 cents per share, a year ago. Revenue was unchanged at $1.74 billion. Shares fell 75 cents, to close at $11.54.

Raytheon Co., the world’s largest missile maker, a profit of $487 million, or $1.51 a share, down from $501 million, also $1.51 a share, a year ago. Revenue fell 3.4 percent to $5.84 billion. Shares fell 41 cents to close at $78.08.

Southwest Airlines Co., a profit of $259 million, or 37 cents a share, up from $16 million, or 2 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 5.5 percent to a record $4.55 billion. Shares rose 61 cents to close at $17.02.

3M Co., the maker of Postit notes, reflective coatings for signs, and glues and adhesives, a profit of $1.23 billion, or $1.78 a share, up from $1.16 billion, or $1.65 a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 6 percent to $7.92 billion. Shares rose 29 cents to close at $123.49.

United Continental Holdings Inc., the world’s largest airline, a profit of $379 million, or 98 cents a share, up from $6 million, or 2 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 3 percent to $10.23 billion. Shares rose 35 cents to close at $31.30.
