Pioneers Run Past Bobcats

Gentry coach Brian Little believes a balanced offense can only bring good results for his team.

On Friday the Pioneers proved his belief correct with a 34-12 win against the Berryville.

The Pioneers racked up 216 yards of rushing and 165 yards of passing on their way to a convincing victory.

Senior Quarterback Jarrod Cousins led the Pioneers with 165 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while tacking on another 167 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

“When we can really get out like that and balance the run and the pass it really helps us execute,” Little said. “We can really be successful that way.”

Gentry (5-3 2-3 conference) got off to a hot start as Cousins ripped off a 33-yard touchdown run breaking eight tackles along the way to give the Pioneers the early lead.

The Pioneers never looked back. Gentry scored in every quarter of the game and put together one of their most complete games of the season.

The Pioneer defense showed up as well. The Pioneers held the Berryville offense to 272 total yards of offense and forced a key turnover deep inside their own territory before halftime to end a Bobcats’ scoring threat.

“We planned to stop the run all week long,” Little said. “In the film we had we saw they pounded it up the middle. We felt like we had to match them on the line, body for body, if we could control the middle of the field we thought we would be successful.”

Extra Points
