FOOTBALL Irwin-Hill on list

Arkansas punter Sam Irwin-Hill was named Friday to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award by the Augusta Sports Council.

Irwin-Hill, a junior from Bendigo, Australia, averages 43.8 yards per punt this season to rank seventh in the SEC and 22nd nationally. His 12 punts inside the 20-yard line are the second-highest in the SEC.

The field of 85 candidates will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists on Nov. 8. A national panel of sports information directors, coaches, media members and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the three finalists, who will be named Nov. 25. The same panel will select the winner, which will be revealed on the Home Depot College Football Award on Dec. 12 on ESPN.

VOLLEYBALL UAPB drops Henderson State

UAPB defeated Henderson State 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-9 Thursday night in Pine Bluff.

Ashlie Jones led the Lady Lions (9-19) with 12 kills. Jordan Foyer had 36 assists. Courtney Brand had 23 digs while Ayanna Parker had 11 along with four blocks.

Henderson State (3-18) was led by Katrina Gouldbourne, who finished with 12 kills. Taylor Thompson had 23 assists. Reagan Large had 14 digs while Cheyenne Derr had eight and Lindsey Calabrese had six.

FISHING Mabelvale’s Thompson leads BASS

Douglas Thompson of Mabelvale leads the BASS National Championship at Lake Dardanelle in Russellville.

Thompson caught five fish for 12 pounds, 3 ounces and has a two-day total of 28-3, leading Jeff Lugar, who has 27 pounds 4 ounces in two days. Mark Dove is in third place at 23-0 after catching 15-6 Friday. Drew Sadler is in fourth place at 23-0 after catching 7-12. Brandon Pedigo is in fifth place with 22-8.

The winner qualifies for the Bassmaster Classic, Feb. 21-23 at Lake Guntersville in Birmingham, Ala.
