Conference: 3A-5
Coach: Lacy Frost, in her second year at Mayflower
Assistant coach: Chance Lefler
Last year’s record: Overall record of 5-18 and conference record of 3-11
Returning starters: Tierra Lasker, a 4-11 senior point guard; Raegan Bartlett, a 5-9 junior post player; and Jessica Webb, a 5-9 senior guard, who averaged 11 points per game last season.
Best inside players: Bartlett is a post player and a strong offensive player. Webb is a guard who can also play inside. She’s a great athlete, blocks shots and can score in the paint. She averaged 11 ppg last season.
Best outside players: Lasker, because she is an “excellent ballhandler, extremely quick, a great defensive player,” Frost said.
How will you match/exceed/fall short of your finish last year? “It is our goal to make an appearance at the state tournament this year,” the coach said.
Team strengths: Frost said the team has better outside shooters than last year. “We should be more of an offensive threat this year,” she said.
Team weaknesses: There isn’t a lot of depth to the team. “[We’re] short on numbers and have a lot of new players,” Frost said.
Toughest opponent: Jessieville — a team that many coaches have cited. “They always have a strong team,” she said.
College prospects: Lasker and Webb. “Both are great athletes who have the potential to play at the next level.”
In a nutshell: “We are looking to improve from last year by averaging at least 10 points per game more than we had last year,” Frost said. “We have almost a completely new team from last year, so other teams will not know what to expect from our new personnel.”
