Suspect found hiding under trash in Dumpster after chase

A North Little Rock man who ran from police at a Maumelle apartment complex was later found hiding under trash in a Dumpster on the property, according to an arrest report.

Police say they later learned that a vehicle 40-year-old Thomas Stickford drove to the complex had been reported stolen. Stickford was arrested on charges including theft by receiving, breaking or entering and fleeing.

According to a Maumelle Police Department report, officers observed Stickford "acting in a suspicious manner" at Lake Willastein Park on Monday afternoon and then followed him when he drove to a nearby apartment complex at 100 Park Drive.

Stickford got out of the blue station wagon he had been driving and police made contact with him on the complex grounds, the report said. But Stickford a short time later ran from an officer and disappeared between buildings, the report said.

Police then found him hiding in a large Dumpster at the north end of the complex.

"He was buried under trash," Lt. Christopher Lester wrote in the report. "... Lt. Ivey and I ordered the suspect out of the dumpster and placed him into custody."

Police say they then confirmed the station wagon had been reported stolen. A wallet Stickford dropped while fleeing had also been reported stolen out of a vehicle, the report said.

Stickford was booked into the Pulaski County jail Monday, but he was no longer listed as an inmate there Tuesday.
