SAU calf roper awarded 'Credit Card' scholarship

MAGNOLIA — Southern Arkansas University has named the first recipient for a scholarship established in honor of a rodeo team horse that was stolen and killed.

TyDaniel Haller of Corydon, Ind., was awarded the inaugural Credit Card Memorial Scholarship. Haller is a calf roper on SAU's rodeo team and is majoring in agriculture business.

In 2011, five horses were stolen from Mulerider Stables and Credit Card was later found with a slashed throat. A former rodeo team member was charged with theft and animal cruelty charges in the case.

SAU says donations poured in from around the country after the school announces plans to endow a scholarship in Credit Card's name.
