CLASS 5A

Shiloh downs LR Christian

ALMA - Little Rock Christian tried different players and tactics in an effort to slow down Reagan Robinson on Wednesday, but nothing worked.

Robinson racked up 24 kills to lead Shiloh Christian to an 25-16, 25-9, 25-14 victory over the Lady Warriors and into today’s semifinals at the Class 5A volleyball state tournament.

Robinson nearly eclipsed her career-high of 26 kills, which she set in Tuesday’s first-round victory over Greene County Tech. Her play at the net baffled Little Rock Christian (19-9), which advanced to the state title game the previous two seasons.

“I kept trying to sub and put in different players to block her, but it didn’t affect her hits,” Little Rock Christian Coach Karen Schaedig said. “That really hurt us because she’s very strong, and she’s just a sophomore. So they’re going to be able to do a lot with her.”

Shiloh Christian (26-6-1) won its eighth consecutive match and clinched its best state tournament showing since moving to Class 5A.

The Lady Saints got nine kills and three blocks from senior Brittany Butler. Senior setter Lauren Brown had 35 assists, senior Julia Heithoff had 18 digs and junior Tori Richards had four blocks.

“I think that’s the best we’ve played all year,” Coach Shyrah Schisler said. “Our serving was stronger tonight. Our defense was stronger, and that’s what really helped us.”

Shiloh Christian will play Paragould at 4 p.m. today. The Lady Rams defeated Sylvan Hills 25-12, 25-7, 25-12 on Thursday.
