Fort Smith picks Tulsa builder for $8 million water park

FORT SMITH — The councils that govern Fort Smith and Sebastian County have selected a firm from Tulsa to build an $8 million water park for the community.

County leaders voted 8-5 on Tuesday and the city council voted 4-3 to hire Flinto Constructive Solutions to build the park. Officials who voted in the minority said they wanted the project to be handled by an Arkansas company.

Flintco built a $13 million water park that opened in May in Rogers and company backers said the firm has a proven track record.

The Southwest Times Record reported that the county and city are splitting the costs of building the facility at Ben Geren Regional Park. The park is to open in 2015.

Thirteen companies from four states expressed interest in the project.
