Police: Woman filed false report of rape

A Benton woman has been charged with filing a false report after police say she lied about an intruder breaking into her home and raping her.

Kristin Johnson, 24, was arrested on a felony warrant Tuesday.

Johnson on Aug. 19 told officers a man she didn't know broke into her home on Watts Road and raped her shortly before she called authorities, the Benton Police Department said in a news release.

Lt. Kevin Russell said Thursday that an investigation revealed the rape never happened, though he declined to provide information about how the agency came to that conclusion.

"We can't release it right now because it's a sensitive investigation," Russell said, noting more charges could be filed. "There was an ulterior motive to her doing this."

Russell said Johnson was not trying to get someone in trouble through he report, but he wouldn't elaborate on the motive.

He said Johnson has not admitted the report was false.

"I think she's just maintained silence," Russell said.
