Fort Smith residents sentenced for meth distribution

Two Fort Smith residents were sentenced today for distributing methamphetamine, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge.

Juan Carlos Murcia-Saldana, 36, was sentenced to 108 months in prison with three years of supervised release. Estella Chavez, 47, was sentenced to 97 months in prison with three years supervised release.

A confidential informant conducted two controlled buys from Murcia-Saldana and Chavez, each of two ounces of methamphetamine, according to the news release. A search following the buys turned up three more ounces of meth, $2,750 in cash and scales.

Chavez and Murcia-Saldana pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, according to the news release.
