Logan, Franklin County officials resume jail talks

— Officials in Logan and Franklin counties in western Arkansas have resumed discussions about possibly building a 150- to 200-bed jail that would be shared by the two counties.

The Times Record reported that Logan County officials attended a Franklin County Quorum Court meeting Thursday.

Logan County Judge Gus Young said the proposal faces hurdles and issues -- but said he believes the project is "doable" and would save both counties money.

The Franklin County Quorum Court agreed to continue discussions -- but Justice of the Peace David Hewitt said there are concerns about the operations of a jail that would be split between two counties and who would run it.

Logan County has a 34-bed jail in Paris. Franklin County has a 26-bed jail in Ozark.
