GOLF UCA’s Angles wins Ole Miss tournament

Central Arkansas junior Pep Angles won the weather-shortened Ole Miss Reunion Intercollegiate by three strokes Tuesday at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.

Angles, from Barcelona, Spain, shot rounds of 73-68 for a 3-under 141 to easily beat Houston’s James Ross and Ole Miss’ Blake Morris by three strokes.

UCA shot 296-308 and finished tied for seventh with Southern Miss at 604. Mississippi State won the tournament at 588.

UCA women tied for first

The Central Arkansas women’s team is tied for first after one round of the Southland Conference Championship at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club in Magnolia, Texas.

Junior Kendra Mann and sophomore Sarah Brown shot 2-over 74 in the first round and are tied for fourth.

UCA shot a 16-over 304 and is tied with Lamar. Sam Houston State is third (305).

ASU, UALR golfers tied for fourth

UALR junior Sofia Berglund and Arkansas State’s Maci Arrington are two strokes off the lead heading into today’s final round of the Sun Belt Conference women’s tournament at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala.

Playing in tough weather conditions Tuesday, Berglund shot an 8-over 80 and Arrington shot a 5-over 77 that left them in a four-way tie for fourth at 6-over 150 heading into the third round.

Ashley Ryals of South Alabama leads the field after shooting a 75 that left her at 4 over for the tournament.

Troy lead the team competition at 24-over 600 after shooting 307 on Tuesday. UALR is fifth at 623 after shooting 319 on Tuesday, and Arkansas State is tied for seventh at 632 after shooting 314 in the second round.
