SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

31 seniors rewarded for accomplishments

On April 6, members of the 41st class of Delta Presents scholarship winners presented themselves at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Performing Arts Center.

Delta Presents is the Little Rock alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.’s signature event, recognizing young black male high school seniors for outstanding achievement in their schools, churches and communities.

Recipients are recommended by school counselors.

They then take career workshops, leadership, educational, personal and/or social development programs that culminate with the scholarship recognition program.

Former honorees include former Arkansas state Sen. Tracy Steele, Bishop Steven Arnold, professional basketball player Sidney Moncrief, state Rep. Eddie Armstrong, news reporter Mark Edwards and Southern Bancorp CEO Darrin Williams.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was founded in 1913 at Howard University in Washington and is the largest black women’s organization in the country, with members in more than 900 chapters worldwide.

The young men are students at Parkview, Central, Mills and J.A. Fair public high schools in Little Rock; private Pulaski Academy; charter schools Academics Plus and eStem; and public schools in North Little Rock, Maumelle, Cabot and Jacksonville.

One scholarship recipient, Eric Fells, was not present.
