News and notes
• Pitcher Blake Parker (Arkansas Razorbacks/Fayetteville) has logged plenty of travel time this week between Class AAA Iowa and the Chicago Cubs. Parker, who was recalled to Chicago on July 26, was optioned to Iowa on Wednesday and was sent back to Chicago for his fifth stint with the Cubs on Friday. A player must stay in the minor leagues for 10 days unless replacing an injured player, which Parker is doing in this case. Felix Doubront, whom the Cubs acquired in a trade deadline deal with the Atlanta Braves, was placed on the disabled list with a left calf strain to make room for Parker.
• Pitcher Ben Wells (Alexander) was promoted to Class A Kane County from short-season Class A Boise by the Chicago Cubs organization on July 21. Wells had a 2-2 record with a 3.86 ERA in 6 appearances for the Hawks. In 28 innings, Wells allowed 15 runs (12 earned) on 27 hits with 15 walks and 22 strikeouts.
• Two players with Arkansas ties have not played recently, but there have been no transactions to note a roster move or a stint on the disabled list for either player. Pitcher Ryne Stanek (Arkansas Razorbacks) has not pitched for the Charlotte StoneCrabs (A+ Rays) since being roughed up against Lakeland on July 19 and shortstop Austin Pfeiffer (UALR) has not played for the Aberdeen IronBirds (A Orioles) since July 21.
