Walker is our pet of the week. He is a handsome and friendly 1-year-old Labrador mix. He was rescued from Malvern Animal Control but doesn't seem to remember his shelter days. Walker has a stunning shiny black coat and a beautiful white bib. He enjoys attention from both people and dogs, and he loves to play. He is fit, lean and weighs 51 pounds. Walker is getting close to his graduation date from the Paws in Prison program and will be strutting out of there with AKC Good Canine Citizen training. If only he had his forever home to strut right into.

Canine Close-Up

Aries is the largest of the puppies from his litter but is a "gentle" giant. He plays sweetly with other dogs, always rolling over during playtime. He is very affectionate to everyone he has met, and everyone who has met him has fallen in love with him. Aries is not really a morning "person" and prefers to cuddle in a warm lap after breakfast. In addition to lap napping, Aries loves to run, roll and play with the rest of the puppies. He is a handsome, 7-month-old white and brown beagle mix weighing 18 pounds. His mother, Jude, also is available for adoption.

Chaplin is a stunning gentleman with a cute club tail! He was rescued from the Cabot animal shelter, where his previous owner left him and two other dogs, which have been adopted. Chaplin is smart, very friendly and loves attention. A black, 18-month-old mountain cur/Labrador retriever mix, Chaplin is a playful guy who loves toys, and he enjoys playing with other dogs. He is housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door.

Fawn was found by police during a random training exercise in the woods. She was in terrible condition, intentionally abandoned and tied up in a rolled-up rug. She is happy to be in a foster home, is now at her ideal weight and has a healthy coat of hair. Fawn is timid when meeting new people, but with a little patience she warms up to people. She enjoys cheek scratches, love and petting time. Fawn is great with dogs and cats but would prefer a home without small children. She is an adorable, 4-year-old rat terrier that weighs a healthy 10 pounds.

Jude is a great dog that will be a great companion. She was rescued from a hoarding situation in Faulkner County, where her owner had no means to care for her. Jude is the mother to seven puppies that were also put up for adoption. She is very sweet and quiet and enjoys being petted. Jude is very well-behaved and is both kennel- and house-trained. She loves kids and cats. Her best friend is an orange tabby kitten her foster family adopted. This sweet, tan-and-white beagle mix is 2 years old and weighs 30 pounds.

Featured Felines

Pebbles is a tiny beauty. Approximately 1 year old, this adorable, grey medium-haired tabby was rescued from the Little Rock animal shelter, where her previous owner surrendered her. Pebbles is a little shy at first but warms up quickly. She loves attention and will follow you around and head butt your leg or outreached hands to let you know she wants some love. She's playful and likes to chase balls and jump for flying toys. She is the perfect little addition to any home.

Tinker Bell is very affectionate and loves to play. She was rescued from the Jacksonville animal shelter, where she had been waiting for three months to be adopted. She is very talkative and loves to chirp. Tinker Bell is the perfect mix of lap cat and playful friend. She would do well in a home with dogs, other cats or kids. Tinker Bell has FIV (Feline Aids) but is otherwise very healthy. FIV is not contagious to people or dogs, and it is only transmitted to other cats through deep bites, usually during fights between unneutered feral males. Many cats with FIV live long, healthy lives. Tinker Bell will need to be slowly introduced to other cats, to be taken to the vet if she gets sick and to have proper nutrition to keep her at a healthy weight. Even with FIV, Tinker Bell is a loving, fun cat who would be a good addition to any lucky home.

Maxwell and Sophia are a brother-and-sister pair. Maxwell is a handsome, short-haired and mostly white cat with amazing light green eyes. Sophia is a stunning long-haired cat with calico markings on her head. They were surrendered to CARE because their family's new baby is allergic to them. In frustration and with tears in their eyes, the family returned them to CARE. Maxwell is a bit shy when you first meet him, but he is affectionate once you gain his trust. He is very protective of his sister, and they are very sweet together. Sophia is a friendly and confident cat. She is prim and proper, and has a sweet, soft voice and temperament. Maxwell and Sophia cuddle together while sleeping and are never that far apart, so we are looking for a home to adopt the pair.

Walker and friends can be adopted through CARE. More information is available at 501-603-CARE (2273), by email at care@careforanimals.org, and online at www.careforanimals.org. Each adoptable pet is spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
