University and community leaders gathered July 24 at the University of Arkansas for a retirement reception for Richard Hudson. He served as vice chancellor for government and community relations for 20 years.
Chancellor Dave Gearhart said Richard has been a "highly respected voice for higher education in Arkansas ... with honesty, integrity and tremendous work ethic."

Chancellor Emeritus Dan Ferritor, who hired Richard away from Westark (now UA Fort Smith), said Richard had the trust of the Legislature and was "our first real government relations lobbyist."

The Arkansas Support Network Summer Gala: An Evening With Nolan Richardson on July 25 at the Fayetteville Town Center helped bring in some $22,000 for the the nonprofit organization's KidsClub.
KidsClub is a nine-week, half-day summer camp for kids with disabilities ages 10 to 17. Arkansas Support Network does not charge a fee to campers; neither does the nonprofit agency receive state or federal money for KidsClub.
The evening included the presentation of the Michael Donald Carver Award to Rick Fleetwood and a keynote address from Nolan Richardson, former Razorback men's basketball coach and a member of the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
Those supporting summer camp included Isaiah Morris, Rick Fleetwood, Lynn Donald and Joel Carver, Jan and Keith Vire, Laine Gates, Cindy Donald and Scott Bronson, Nancy and Dick Trammel, Laura Knapp, Jazmin Knapp and Allison Carter and Don Tru.
United Way of Northwest Arkansas leaders gathered Tuesday evening at Mermaids Seafood Grill for the nonprofit organization's annual meeting. Those gathered celebrated a successful 2014 fundraising campaign and other group milestones and accomplishments in the past year as they prepare to start a new year. The meeting also included electing new members and officers to the board of directors and Shawn Walker, 2014 board chairman, passing the gavel to Danny Funkhouser, 2015 board chairman.
Among those meeting were Alison and Richard Levin, Kaki and Mike Giauque, Kathy Deck, Mike Luttrell, Marsha and Hartzel Jones, Kelley and Kent Williamson and Carolyn Rehbock.
