Woman said fit to stand trial in husband's death

BALD KNOB — An Arkansas hospital says a woman accused of slicing her husband's neck in a Bald Knob gas station is fit to stand trial.

The Daily Citizen reported that Amy Renee Collins' attorney contests the Arkansas State Hospital's evaluation. A circuit judge said Collins' lawyer must file a written motion for a second opinion.

Collins faces charges of first-degree battery and aggravated assault. Police say Collins sliced her husband's neck with a knife in March. She then began cutting her own neck and wrist before fleeing the store.

The city's police chief shot Collins in the shoulder, after she refused his orders to drop the knife and ran toward him with the weapon.

A prosecutor said the chief was justified in his use of force.
