Spa City fundraising guests spend Night at the Museum

The Mid-America Science Museum staff took after-dark education into a class of its own when they hosted a fundraiser for education development at the Hot Springs museum on Aug. 2.

A bit more than 300 people attended A Night at the Museum. Attendees were entertained by activities such as rides in the museum's spaceship simulator and noshing on Cheetos frozen in liquid nitrogen.

Cara Matthews, representative for the museum, said the party provided them a chance to take advantage of the museum's beautiful outdoor deck and raise money for area schools.

"We met and exceeded many of our financial goals," Matthews said.

The evening of music and food ended with a silent auction, including a Mountain Harbor weekend getaway, a 14-karat gold bracelet, a chocolate pearl necklace, and four tickets on Seaport Airlines to any destination. The big ticket item of the night, which sold for $975, was a date night package, which provided 12 different activities, one for each month, including everything from high-end dinners to salsa dancing lessons.

Music was provided by Hot Springs-based band Midnite Parade. Food and wine were also local, contributed by Bliss Cupcake Boutique, Superior Bathhouse Brewery & Distillery, Gelato di Superior, Beano's Pizza, El Padrino's Mexican Grill, Vina Morita Restaurant & Wine Bar, Coffee Love, Tri-Lakes Liquor, Coco Beverages Inc. and Salsa's Mexican Grill. Radio station KLAZ-FM, 105.9, sponsored the event.
