ACLU asks court to uphold state's voter-ID ruling

LITTLE ROCK — The American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas is asking the state's highest court to uphold a judge's ruling that Arkansas' new voter-identification law is unconstitutional.

Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin had appealed the ruling from Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox, who struck down the law in May but put his decision on hold pending an appeal.

The case was filed by the ACLU of Arkansas and the Arkansas Public Law Center on behalf of four voters who they said would be harmed by the new requirement. In paperwork submitted Monday with the Arkansas Supreme Court, the groups argued that Fox's ruling should be upheld.

Also Monday, Pulaski County Clerk Larry Crane submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in the case, arguing that the law is "overreaching and unnecessary."

You ACLU don't you gave something else to complain about? You drive a car, you must have a picture DL. You use credit/debit cards, they ask for for picture ID-sometimes! To keep dead people for voting, I think you should have picture ID to positively id you to protect against voting fraud! Also individuals at age 13 need to have picture ID, issued by the state to positively id individuals as well. So really find something else to bitch about--please!

Yet, when wingnut libs in places like New York and LA pass laws prima facie unconstitutional regarding the 2nd Amendment the ACLU is nowhere to be found. WFT? Why is providing an ID to vote any more unconstitutional than providing an ID when first registering to vote? Is any degree of proving that you are who you say you are unconstitutional when voting?

I don't understand the big argument against voter ID everyone should have one if you don't they ask for a copy of a utility bill with your name and address on it, if you don't have one you are dead. If you are too lazy to get a voter photo ID after our forefathers fought and died for your right to vote. then you don't deserve to vote in the U.S.
