Iaconelli wins Bassmaster Elite event

It was a happy homecoming for Mike Iaconelli as he weighed in 10 pounds, 14 ounces Sunday to win the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament held on the Delaware River near Philadelphia.

Iaconelli, of Pittsgrove, N.J., finished the four-day tournament with a total weight of 47-14 and earned $101,500 for the victory and a spot in Bassmaster Classic. It was a particularly sweet victory of Iaconelli, who was born in Philadelphia and grew up bass fishing on the river.

"I won today, but not for me," Iaconelli told the crowd. "I won for you guys."

Chris Lane of Guntersville, Ala., brought in a 12-14 stringer Sunday and finished second with 39-14.

Kevin Short of Mayflower weighed in 11 pounds and finished fourth with a total weight of 39-00. He earned $15,000. Scott Rook of Little Rock, who went into the final round in third place, managed only one fish Sunday that weighed 2-14. He finished ninth with a total weight of 32-08 and took home $12,000.

LR Junior Deputy team falls to 0-2

Zack Demko had three hits and drove in the game-winning run with one out in the seventh inning as Danfort, Conn., defeated the Little Rock Junior Deputy All-Stars 5-4 on Sunday in the 12-under Cal Ripken Baseball World Series in Aberdeen, Md.

The Junior Deputy All-Stars, the Southwest Region representative, fell to 0-2 in pool play.

Zac White had two hits and two RBI and Reece Weatherton had two hits for the Junior Deputy All-Stars, who led 4-3 going into the seventh inning. Robert Bavon drove in two runs as well for the Little Rock team.

White struck out four batters in relief of Evan Stewart.
