The Arkansas Boathouse Club hosts the inaugural Six Bridges Regatta, a national head race (consider it a 5K on the water) on the Arkansas River. The first year includes races beginning at 8:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, with racers competing in juniors, collegiate and masters divisions. The races start on the river around Burns Park and finish just under the Junction Bridge. According to the club, the regatta is the first held on the Arkansas River since 1938.

Science

08/27:

With baseball entering its homestretch, the Museum of Discovery’s monthly, grown-up learning experience, Science After Dark, turns its attention to America’s pastime with The Science of Baseball. The 21-and-up event is 6-8 p.m., and admission is free for museum members and $5 for non-members. There’s Damgoode Pies pizza, Stone’s Throw Brewing beer and a cash bar. Learn about the science of the sport with several baseball-related exhibits and experiments.

Music

08/28:

Bass players are the butt of many jokes, such as, “What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians? A bass player.” But no one’s going to tell a Geddy Lee or Stanley Clarke a bass player joke. In reality, bassists are extremely important, and to prove this point, the Rev Room hosts the Bass Players Ball, a showcase of 12 of Arkansas’ finest bassists. The night is an 18-and-up event with tickets $10 in advance and $15 day of show. The music starts at 8:30 p.m.

08/29:

Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, and the Little Rock Marriott says goodbye to summer with Little Rock’s End of the Summer Rivertop Party. The 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. event features music from Big Piph, Poolboy from Alice 107.7, DJ Petey Beats, Tre Day from Power 92 Jams and more. General admission tickets are $15, and the night also includes food and drinks in two separate party areas — one inside and one outside. VIP ticket options are available, too.

08/29:

A former member of ’90s alternative rock darlings Radish, Ben Kweller is now a solo artist known for his power-pop-flavored indie rock. And that’s what Kweller promises when he visits Stickyz. There’s a $15 cover with the music starting at 9:30 p.m. for the 18-and-up show. Following the end of Radish in 1999, Kweller started a solo career and has released a number of albums since, including 2004’s On My Way, 2009’s Changing Horses and 2012’s Go Fly a Kite.

Magic

08/30:

Music, theater, comedy — those are just some of the things that get publicized within these pages. But what about magic? Not so much. Well, if you love magic, here’s an event to check out: the Arkansas Masters of Illusion at The Studio Theatre in downtown Little Rock. The family show features some of Arkansas’ best magicians performing illusions, offering surprises and more. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $10, and children 12 and under get in free.
