The city of Little Rock plans a formal investiture ceremony and reception for its new police Chief Kenton Buckner, who took over the department about two months ago.

Buckner will be officially presented with his Arkansas law enforcement certificate Thursday at the ceremony.

Although Buckner has already been sworn in as the department's new chief and has already started work, it becomes official Thursday when his mother, Jessye Torian, pins the his badge on his uniform, which he will be publicly wearing for the first time.

City Manager Bruce Moore will attend the event as well as the deputy chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department, where he previously worked.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at The Centre at University Park, 604 W. 12th St.
