Willow Creek Apartments to close after code violations

The city of Little Rock has received a temporary injunction from Pulaski County Circuit Judge Timothy Fox to close Willow Creek Apartments, saying it has committed more than 250 municipal code violations.

City spokesman Luis Gonzalez said Friday that the owner of the apartment complex, at 7515 Geyer Springs Road, must bring the buildings up to code before residents can live there again.

More than 100 of the code violations were considered “life-safety issues,” such as flooding, cracked concrete floors, plumbing and electrical issues, he said, and 48 of the units were declared unsafe.

“After assessing this property, it was clear that residents were exposed to many life safety violations,” City Manager Bruce Moore said in a statement. “We simply can’t risk the well-being of our citizens by exposing them to these life-threatening and unsanitary living conditions.”

Tenants have until 5 p.m. Sept. 5 to vacate the complex, and specialists from the Little Rock Department of Housing and Neighborhood Programs will help residents with the transition, Gonzalez said.

The Little Rock Police Department will provide increased surveillance of the area while the complex is secured.
