Charges refiled in 2012 Hot Springs killing

HOT SPRINGS — Prosecutors have refiled murder and attempted murder charges against a man in a 2012 case.

Jacorei Lance Thornton was arrested Thanksgiving night and charged in the death of Randy Shinkle and the shooting of a passenger in Shinkle's car.

Thornton and his brother Kenyon Taylor had been charged within days, but prosecutors withdrew their case when they couldn't find two witnesses. Taylor was re-charged earlier this year and convicted and sentenced to 40 years on a murder charge.

Prosecutors waited to renew charges against Thornton until after Taylor's trial. Deputy prosecutor Joe Graham told the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record that the case was renewed last week.

Thornton pleaded innocent Monday. He was released because he complied with terms of his bond after the initial charges.
