STEPPING UP

Event salutes scholarships for women to attend OBU

Stepping Up for Ouachita, the annual luncheon that raises scholarship money for women at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, was held Nov. 21 at the Benton Event Center. Susie Everett of Benton, a former OBU student and current member of the board of trustees, was the afternoon's honoree. OBU President Rex Horne said the Everett family, which includes Susie's husband, Dwight, were "a blessing to so many people and so many noble causes."

Bridget Bloxom, an OBU senior who has benefited from scholarships, thanked the guests for their generosity and said that her time at OBU was nothing short of a dream come true, and that she hopes to "take all that has poured into me and pour it out wherever the Lord leads me."

Also speaking were professor Lori Hensley and her student Haley Dahl, who spoke about undergraduate cancer research taking place at the university.

Sharon Heflin served as event chairman.

The luncheon ended with a musical performance by Miss OBU 2014 Abby Lindsey.
