'Voices of Angels'

The Muses Creative Artistry Project will present its ninth annual "Voices of Angels" Christmas concert twice this weekend in Hot Springs: at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Muses Cultural Arts Center, 428 Orange St., and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Anthony Chapel, Garvan Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge St. The concerts close out the Muses' 2014 "Four Seasons in Art & Song" subscription series.

The Muses' Deleen Davidson and Ruth'e Korelitz, sopranos, and Katie Bieber and Katie Garner, mezzo-sopranos, join Kristen LaMadrid, piano; Shelley Martin, flute; Steve Suter, trombone; and singers from Henderson State University and area high schools, including the choir from the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Science and Art, in conjunction with the Muses Vocal Apprentice Program, to perform mixed-voice settings of Christmas carols (many of them angel-themed), three selections from A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten and songs by Felix Mendelssohn, Maurice Ravel and John Rutter. Bieber and Davidson will perform two settings of "Pie Jesu," from the Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber and by Italian Baroque composer Benedetto Marcello. Dancers from the Hot Springs Children's Dance Theater will perform excerpts from P.I. Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.

Klezmer concert

The Meshugga Klezmer Band with singer Stephanie Smittle and the 17-piece Dave Rosen Big Band will perform for the Arkansas Sounds holiday concert, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. 'Jolly Holly Day'

The William F. Laman Library's Argenta Branch, 420 Main St., North Little Rock, is hosting "Jolly Holly Day" on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., featuring a gardening program, a tutor-dog demonstration, a handbell choir, country music and storytelling, make-and-take crafts, and cookies and cider. Beer, Brats & 'Bots

Nearby, the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub will hold its first Beer, Brats & 'Bots event, noon-6 p.m. Saturday at The Launch Pad, 201 E. Broadway, North Little Rock. Teams of three (entry fee is $50) will compete to see whose is the last robot "standing." The winning team gets a six-month Launch Pad membership; all competitors get T-shirts and trophies. CARL Bot!, the "mascot" for the Challenge Arkansas Robotics League, and event "mascot" Beer2-D2 will be on hand. Tickets are $10, (including bratwursts from Ben E. Art of the Bar

Artists and artisans from Fayetteville, Hot Springs and Little Rock will sell hand-crafted items from soap and nail polish to jewelry, ornaments and artworks, at the second annual Art of the Bar, 2-8 p.m. Sunday at South on Main, 1304 Main St., Little Rock. The restaurant's barman, David Burnette, will put together seasonal cocktails, including his award-winning eggnog, and there will be "holiday treats" via chefs Matthew Bell and Matthew Lowman. Band concert

The Natural State Brass Band's Christmas Concert, 6 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 N. Shackleford Road, Little Rock, will feature soloists Courtney Swindler, cornet and trumpet, and David Laubach, flugelhorn and trumpet, on "Come Little Town," and Rico Belotti, tuba, on "Frosty, the Snowman." The program will also include Leroy Anderson's A Christmas Festival, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)" and Rene Clausen's "Seek the Lord" in a new arrangement for band by Jamie Lipton of Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. Percussion ensemble

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Percussion Ensemble will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. today in the Stella Boyle Smith Recital Hall, Fine Arts Building, UALR, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. Conductor Charles Law's program will feature works by contemporary composers Anthony J. Cirone, Will Rapp, Chris Brooks and Matt Savage. Admission is free. Der 'Bingle'

Bing Crosby impersonator Duke Hazlett will perform his Christmas show, Reflections on Bing Crosby and Songs of Christmas, 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the New Community Theatre, 207 W. Pvt. Wars

Three Vietnam War veterans recover from their injuries in an Army hospital while facing the uncertainties of returning to civilian life in Pvt. Wars by James McLure, which the Lantern Theatre and Conway Community Arts Association will stage at 8 p.m. today-Saturday at the Lantern Theatre, 1021 Van Ronkle St., Conway. The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's final "Walks Through History" tour of 2014 will visit the Taylor House and Cemetery, off Arkansas 138 near Winchester in Drew County, 11 a.m. Saturday. The two-story, dogtrot-style house was donated in 2012 to the University of Arkansas at Monticello, which is co-sponsoring the walk with the Drew County Historical Society. Admission is free.
