WASHINGTON — Thousands of protesters are converging on Washington to help bring attention to the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police.
Civil rights organizations are holding a national march Saturday with the families of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, two unarmed black men who died in incidents with white police officers.
Thousands gathered at Freedom Plaza in the morning. Terry Baisden of Baltimore says she's hopeful change is coming and that it's not just a fleeting flash of anger.
Murry Edwards says he made the trip from St. Louis because he wanted to make sure that the momentum from the movement in Ferguson, Missouri — where Brown died — reaches a national stage.
While protesters rally in Washington, other groups will march around the country, including a large event planned in New York City.
