3 killed, 1 hurt in tire blowout wreck

Five people died in three separate wrecks Sunday on Arkansas roads, according to state police.

Three people were killed and another injured in a one-vehicle wreck on Interstate 55 in Mississippi County.

Francisco Figurero, 46, of Chicago, was driving a Chevrolet Blazer south about 11:20 a.m. when the Blazer's left rear tire blew out, police said. Figurero overcorrected, and the Blazer overturned and went into the ditch.

Passengers Elva Figurero, 46; Gabriel Figurero, 46; and Navor Medina, 36; all of Chicago, were killed. Two of them were pronounced dead at the scene, and the other died at Great River Medical Center in Blytheville, according to police.

Francisico Figurero was transported to Regional Medical Center in Memphis with injuries.

Earlier Sunday, a man died in Cabot after his car struck a tree.

Luke Ledbetter, 23, of Cabot was driving a Toyota Camry east on Driskill Drive near Arkansas 107 about 6 a.m. when he left the road and struck a tree, state police said. Police reported conditions were foggy at the time.

Ledbetter was taken to North Metro Medical Center in Jacksonville, where he died.

Also Sunday, an Okolona man died when his truck overturned on Bateman Road in Clark County.

Christopher Thornton, 46, was driving a Chevrolet pickup west about 12:50 p.m. He failed to negotiate a curve, and his truck struck a bridge rail, overturned and landed on its top, state police said.

Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene.
