Committee rejects ASU medical college application

JONESBORO — Officials say a New York college's application to open an osteopathic medical school on a Jonesboro university's campus has been denied.

But Barbara Ross-Lee of the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine said it will submit another application for accreditation to the American Osteopathic Association in April.

Ross-Lee said it's not uncommon for a school to be denied accreditation initially. She said the committee gave college officials a list of items they needed to clarify before turning in another application.

Arkansas State University is working with the New York college to open the medical school in 2016. NYIT plans to lease a building that's about 86,000 square feet from ASU for the medical school.
