New span in, road reopens to NLR traffic

Remount Road in North Little Rock has reopened to traffic after being closed since Dec. 2 to replace a small bridge.

The work was on the span that crosses Five Mile Creek south of the North Little Rock Municipal Airport. The work required closing Remount Road just north of Kierre Drive and just south of Mission Road.

The bridge, 25 feet wide and 30 feet in length, was built in 1939, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. Because of deterioration of its steel beams, it was replaced with a triple-opening, reinforced concrete box culvert during the past three weeks.

Although the road has reopened, additional work will be required that may involve brief lane closures in the near future, according to a Highway Department news release.

The construction work was by Mobley Contractors Inc., of Morrilton. The state Highway Department awarded Mobley the contract worth $570,871, the news release said.
