Shelter loses meat meant for Christmas meal

HOT SPRINGS — An Arkansas children's shelter lost all of its turkey and hams meant for a Christmas day meal because the meat spoiled in an old refrigerator.

The Sentinel-Record reports the Ouachita Children's Center lost four turkeys and three hams because its refrigerator malfunctioned.

Executive director Linda Ragsdale says the equipment has been fixed with a thermostat that hopefully will keep it working for another month.

Ragsdale says the refrigerator, which needs to be replaced, is one of many items on the center's growing to-do list. She says parts of the building's plaster ceiling recently fell in the front lobby just minutes before people walked in.

Ragsdale also says the building's plumbing needs updating. The temporary home can host up to 20 children.
