Utility aid available for qualifying households

Utility assistance applications for low-income individuals will be accepted around the state starting Jan. 5.

The Central Arkansas Development Council will accept the applications for the regular Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps qualifying households with home energy bills, according to a news release.

Applicants must meet income guidelines to qualify for assistance and provide picture identification, a copy of their electric and gas bill and proof of all income for anyone in the home. The eligibility limits for all qualifying income are set at 60 percent of the state's median income level, which would be $1,533 for a household of one, the agency said.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at mass intake days in Lonoke, Union, Ouachita, Saline, Pulaski, Hot Spring and Clark counties. Applications will be accepted after the mass intake days in several of these counties, as well as Calhoun, Columbia, Dallas, Montgomery and Pike counties.

More information on the mass application intake events is available by contacting that county's local CADC office and visiting the program's website.
