Weight-loss clinic to host open house

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Weight Loss Clinic will host an open house and offer free blood pressure and body mass index screenings, weight-loss program food samples and door prizes at its new on-campus location Friday.

Attendees can also speak with current and former patients about their experiences with the program.

Admission is free and open to the public for the open house, which starts at 10:30 a.m. at the clinic’s new location, the ground floor of the Central Building, Room G600. The new location will mean patients can attend health classes, visit their doctor and receive lab work at one site.

The program, which lasts 16 weeks, offers patients classes on behavior modification and nutrition taught by registered dietitians. Participants do not need a physician referral to begin the program. But they must receive a screening evaluation that includes a review of their medical history, a physical check of their vital signs, a review of the program and a discussion of their individual health and fitness needs.
