GEORGE EDWIN COOK, born Dec. 27, 1920, passed away Feb. 11, 2014. Survived by his wife, Rena; daughter Margaret (Joe); son, Edwin (Jane); sister, Shirley Jensen; and his three grandchildren: Katie, John, and Paul.

He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He was an Army T/4 Sgt. during World War II and worked at the VA Hospital for 39 years until he retired. No services will be held at his request.

HENRY LEVI DEGLER, 68, of Mabelvale passed away Feb. 11, 2014.He was born on June 27, 1945 to Nancy and Howard Degler Sr. Henry was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Mabelvale. He worked for the Yellow Cab Company, Arkansas Democrat, AAMCO Transmission and the Pulaski County Special School District. Henry was a respected, good strong man. A Jack of all trades. He enjoyed spendingtime with his family and friends and loved his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Degler Sr.; brothers, Howard Jr. and John Ralph Degler; and his great-grandson, Bradley Gresham.

Henry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Norma Degler; children, Johnnie Faye, Robert Dale and Timothy Wayne Degler and Sarah Owens; his mother, Nancy Degler; his mother-in-law, Betty (Charles) Butler; brothers, Robert (Marty) Degler, Danny Degler and Mike Page; sisters, Gladis (Jack) Robins, Inez Garney, Hazel Bryant and Mary Jane Bryant; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren and many friends, all who greatly loved him and will truly miss him.

JANET OVERTON GRICE, 77, of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014. She was born Monday, April 20, 1936 in Stuttgart, Ark. to the late Clyde and Gladys Grice.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Vickie Scallorns; onesister, Gail Fox; and two grandchildren, Michael Scallorns and Melody Scallorns. She is also survived by her close friend and caretaker, Debbie Gooding. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Grice; and one brother, Ted Overton.

Janet worked for the Pulaski County Special District as a teacher for 36 years. She enjoyed animals and loved her dogs and cats. Janet will always be remembered for a big heart of love and warmth she had for kids helping others and especially animals.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Janet will be held on her birthday, Sunday, April 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. on her section of Heaven on Earth located at 5319 Jones Loop Rd, Little Rock Ark. 72223.

THOMAS ALBERT LOVELADY, 64, of Little Rock went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. He was born in Conway, Ark. on Feb. 28, 1949. He served in the United States Navy and was a retired foremanof public works for the City of Little Rock.

Thomas is preceded in death by his father, James Jesse Lovelady; brother, James Lovelady; and son, David Lovelady.

He is survived by his mother, Addie B. Russell of Clinton; one son, T.J. Lovelady of Little Rock; three daughters, Becky Johnson (Cody) of Conway, Deanna Morgan of Ohio, Jessica Lovelady of Little Rock; two sisters, Annabell Prather (Bill) of Damascus, Roxanne Lynch (Bob) of Navare, Fla.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

NANCY JEAN MARLATT, 71, went to be with her Lord and savior on Feb. 14, after a long battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Dorothy Winter; and her late husband, Jim Morgan.

Nancy was director of the Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church Early Learning Center for 35 years. During this time she touched the lives of children and families from all over the world. She achieved her dream of the preschool achieving the Better Beginning Quality Program for child care.

Nancy was full of life, loved her Lord, her family and children. Nancy always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. She always put others first. Nancy will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Harold “Red” Marlatt of 50 years; four children, Dale (Joyce) Marlatt, Jim Marlatt, Mark (Danette) Marlatt, Carrie (Chad) Cauley; one sister, Beverly Neely; two brothers, Ed Winter (Carol) and Mike (Virginia) Winter; and many grand and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

BETTY FRANCES NICHOLS WRIGHT died Wednesday, Feb.12, 2014 in Little Rock. Born July 1, 1931 to Andrew and Nellie Mason Nichols at Glade, Ark., she grew up in Bentonville, where she married Jack D. Wright on April 17, 1954. A resident of Little Rock since 1963, Betty was a church secretary from 1973-1995. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Gore and husband, Richard of Little Rock; her son, Greg Wright and wife, Trish of Cohutta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Rhett, Sean (Christina) and Lori Gore and Evan and Lynne Wright; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harley Jack Nichols of San Jose, Calif.; sister, Margaret Mayhall (John) of Ft. Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Jack D. Wright; a daughter, Cynthia Ann; four brothers, Dewey, Jerry, Rex and Raymond Nichols; and seven sisters, Agnes Williams, Eva Grayson, Blanche Styre, Juanita Baker, Zelma Nichols, Mary Kirby and Gertrude Brewer.

ATKINS - Cloyd Stephen “Steve” Wiseman, age 64, of Atkins passed away Feb. 15, 2014 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock, Ark.

He was born Jan. 26, 1950 inMissouri. Steve worked for the poultry industry in North West Arkansas for many years and later became an Elder in full connection of the Arkansas United Methodist Church, serving churches at Jasper, Lepanto, Joiner, Hughes, El Dorado, and Berryville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Velva Lee Wiseman; and cousin, Gaylon Cope.

Steve is survived by his wife of 17 years, Rebecca Searcy Wiseman, Atkins; a daughter, Christina Lynn Wiseman Musick and husband Joey, Romance, Ark.; son, Clement Brian Wiseman and wife Madalyn, Collinsville, Okla.; stepsons, Stephen Titus and wife Angie, Alexander, Ark., Mark Titus, Little Rock; grandchild, Tiffany Ann Moffitt, Romance, Ark.; four step-grandchildren, Sarah, Hogan, Josiah and Zoe Grace Titus, Alexander, Ark.; father, Bob J. BATESVILLE - Lisa Kay (Wallace) Seufer was the fourth of five children born to Doyle Howard and Nelda Ruth Whalen Wallace Fuller on Dec. 5, 1958 in Searcy, Ark. She graduated from Captain Shreve High School, earned her nursing credentials, and, shortly after, enlisted into the Navy.

Lisa was a lover of people who made friends effortlessly and genuinely no matter the circumstance. She radiated goodness to all who knew her and her kindness never found its limit. She loved without judgement and gave whatever she had to anyone in need. She was very close to her family and her family loved her dearly.

Lisa’s signature look was her short cropped dark hair (never dyed!!) and richly tanned skin in a long, sleeveless summer dress. She exuded joy, fun and spontaneity and loved the sun, the sand, and the ocean; particularly the ocean they experienced during her husband, Mark Seufer’s tour of duty in Guam.

Lisa’s true love, however, was her beautiful daughter, Olivia Claire, who was born while her parents were stationed in Pensacola, Fla. Olivia eventually followed the footsteps of both of her parents and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 2011 where she met and married her husband, Jordan Culleton. They are both currently stationed at Lakenheath AFB, England.

Lisa is survived by Olivia and Jordan; her parents, Doyle and Betty Wallace and Nelda Fuller; her sisters and brother and their spouses/partners/friends, Terri and Paul Miller, Kim Wallace and Kellie Acosta, and Mike Wallace and Sue Poff. She is also survived by nephew, Jason Wallace Langston; nieces, Amanda and Amelia Miller; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Allen Wallace; grandparents, Chester and Edith Wallace and Tony and Ruth Whalen; and step-father, Roy Fuller.

We would like to extend special thanks to Lisa’s extended family at Human Resources of Arkansas in Batesville where she resided. BENTON - Feb. 14, 2014 is recognized nationally as the day oflove. It is also the day that Reba L. Griffis, 81 of Benton, Ark. was promoted and transported to her everlasting heavenly home with Jesus Christ. With her entire family and best friend Joe Fureighat her side, she made her final journey. Reba was born at home at the Bauxite Pumps on March 10, 1932 to a warm and loving family who lived there to operate the water pumps for the Alcoa plant located on the other side of Bauxite.

She was a lifelong, active member of Social Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from the Saline County Courthouse in the late nineties where she was a custodian. In the ’60s she worked at Curtis Mathis. Most of her life she spent as a homemaker and caretaker. Miss Reba was loved by many people in Saline County young and old.

Mrs. Griffis is survived by her best and closest friend, Joe Fureigh of Bryant; son , James Donald Griffis (Fran) of Benton; daughter, Sandra Jean Johnson (Tommy) of Haskell; son, Tony Ray Griffis (Jean) of Haskell; son, Gary Alan Griffis (Susan) of Little Rock; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene Tatum of Conway, Joyce Shelnutt of Benton; along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. “Jimmy” Griffis; father, C.E. “Charlie” Burnett of Benton; mother, Millie Dodson Burnett of Benton; sisters, Doris Dean Greer of Benton, Mary Lee Hunter of Haskell, Bonnie Faye Phillips of Benton; brother, Edward Burnett of Bauxite.

Visitation is set for Monday evening Feb. 17 at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton, Ark. 6-8 p.m. Funeral is Tuesday Feb. 18 at Ashby Funeral Home at 2 p.m.

The service will be officiated by Brother Don McCutcheon, a lifetime pastor to the family, and Brother Bill Williams, current pastor. The pall bearers are sons and grandsons.

BENTON - Ronald Tedford “Bobby” Jones, 74, of Benton passedaway Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. He was born Oct. 2, 1939 in Camden, Ark. to the late Ernest Bengree and Carmen Marie Mc-Cullough Jones.

Mr. Jones was a computer analyst for the State of Arkansas and Alcoa Metals and taught math at Benton High School. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the NRA. He was also a U.S. Army veteran where he was a decorated sharpshooter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Edward Jones.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Dale Jones of Benton; two granddaughters, Kaitlen and Amanda Jones; two aunts, Alice Blagg of Ft. Smith and Martha Lee Jones of Little Rock; and special friend, Becky Townsend of Benton.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047) with Bro. Kim Hammer officiating.

CABOT - Kimberley Ann Purnell Barnes, age 49, an angel wenthome to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014.

She was born July 28, 1964 in Little Rock to Henry F. Purnell and Annette Williams Purnell.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Irene Williams, and Andrew and Nannie Purnell. Kimberley was a Registered Nurse and worked for UAMS and the VA Hospital for many years. She was a loving mother who raised her son single handedly while in a wheelchair, she touched many lives over her 20 year battle with MS. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving son, Blake Barnes; her parents, Henry and Annette Purnell; a brother, Tim Purnell and his wife Tamra; niece, Lauren; and a nephew, AJ Purnell. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

CABOT - Jeral D. Weaver, 76, of Cabot, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. He was born May 9, 1937 in Los Angeles, Calif. to the late Harver and Grace Brown Weaver and was raised in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Mr. Weaver loved his family and was a very hard worker to the point of perfection. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Jeral married his beloved wife, Mildred in Trumann, Ark. in 1956 and they moved to North Little Rock in 1976, and then to Cabot in 1985. They are members of the First Pentecostal Church in North Little Rock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only son, Dennis Weaver in 2004.

Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mildred Phillips Weaver; brothers, Paul Weaver of Jonesboro and Dwell Weaver of North Little Rock; sisters, Shirley New of Harrisburg and Jelene Byrum of Trumann; two grandchildren, Denise (Josh) Whittiker and Brittany (Mike) Lovelady; and four great-grandchildren, all of Jacksonville.

FORT SMITH - Charles Dawes Burns, 89, of Fort Smith, Ark. passedaway on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 in a local hospital. He was born in Benton Harbor, Mich. to Riley and Letha Burns. He honorably served his country in the US Army serving in the 462nd ordinance evacuationcompany during World War II. Following the war he went to work for Whirlpool and retired 42 years later as a supervisor. He was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was in the Bethel Bible class. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years; two brothers; and one sister.

STRONG - Mike Brown, age 60, of Strong, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at the St. Vincent’s Infirmary Center, in Little Rock. He was born Oct. 5, 1953, in Warren, Ark., to Ruby Barrett Brown and the late Larkin Brown.

He was a high school coach and teacher and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid reader, loved fishing and history, was an excellent cook and loved a good political argument. Mike was a very quiet person who dearly loved his family and friends.
