BASEBALL Henderson sweeps SE Oklahoma

Tadarious Hawkins’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted Henderson State to a 5-4 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma in the first game of a doubleheader sweep Saturday in Arkadelphia.

The Reddies followed with an 8-1 victory. The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak for Henderson State (2-7, 2-1 Great American Conference).

Henderson State trailed 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning in the first game before the Reddies put together a three-run rally to send the game to extra innings.

In the 11th, Hawkins followed a line drive to left field to score McGuire with the game-winning run.

Henderson State scored twice in the first and third innings of the second game to build a 4-0 lead on its way to the victory.

UAM splits with NW Oklahoma

Arkansas-Monticello split two games with Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Alva, Okla., losing the first game 8-3 and winning the second 3-2.

The Rangers (5-2, 1-1 Great American Conference) scored five times in the first with two home runs. Kade Garlington (1-2) took the loss for Arkansas-Monticello, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits in 3 innings.

Travis Steinke hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning in the second game as UAM earned a split.

Harding sweeps Truman State

Harding defeated Truman State 7-3 and 3-2 Saturday at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy.

Harding overcame a 3-2 deficit in the seventh inning of the first game when Noah Chandler’s squeeze bunt scored Zac Stewart to tie the game and James Anderson singled in two more runs. Harding added two runs in the eighth to set the final margin.

In the second game, Erin McCarver was hit by a pitch to lead off the eighth, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a wild pitch before scoring on another wild pitch.

SOFTBALL Arkansas beats St. John’s

Claire Clark hit a grand slam as Arkansas defeated St. John’s 10-0 in five innings Saturday at Bogle Park in Fayetteville.

Kimmy Beasley struck out six batters in five innings for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas scored eight runs in the first two innings. The Razorbacks drew a season-high nine walks, including four in the five-run fourth inning. Three of those runners eventually came around to score. Kasey Fagan also had a double down the left-field line to score Devon Wallace and Parker Pocklington.

UCA beats Valparaiso, loses to Michigan

Central Arkansas defeated Valparaiso 10-8 before losing 7-0 to No. 4 Michigan on Saturday at the Ragin’ Cajun Invitational on Saturday in Lafayette, La.

Central Arkansas scored 5 runs on 4 hits and 2 Valparaiso errors in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Briana Whisenhunt had an RBI double down the left-field line to score Ashley Boswell. Sam Forrest singled to left to score Amy Grunnells, and Whisenhunt scored when the left fielder didn’t field the ball cleanly.

Valparaiso scored three times in the bottom of the third to close to within 6-4. After both teams scored in the fourth, Valparaiso pulled to within 7-6 in the fifth before UCA added three runs in the sixth on four hits and one error. Valparaiso scored two in the seventh to pull to within 10-8, but a strikeout ended the game with the tying run on first.

Kylee Studioso picked up the victory in relief, allowing 2 runs while striking out 2 in 3 innings. Kayla Gomness picked up the save by pitching the final 1 2/3 innings.

Sierra Lawrence hit a first-inning grand slam in the second game to give the Wolverines a 4-0 lead. Michigan added two runs in the third inning and one in the seventh.

BASKETBALL Ozarks rallies to top Concordia

Ted Beard scored 22 points and the University of Ozarks rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to knock off Concordia (Texas) College 89-85 in Clarksville on Saturday afternoon.

Ricky Allen added 21, Jordan Walker 14 and Josh Ferrell 12 for Ozarks, which trailed 46-37 at the half. Andre Potts paced Concordia with 16 points.
