Severe storms possible Thursday

Parts of Arkansas could see severe storms, including tornadoes, Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service in North Little Rock, said Tuesday that the greatest threat is damaging winds but that an "isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out." Wind gusts Thursday could top 40 mph.

The severe weather isn't forecast to affect Little Rock. The risk area is east of a line from Hardy to Searcy to Sheridan to Camden, Robinson said, with the greatest chance occurring in counties along the Mississippi River.

The storms will move out of the state by the late afternoon to early evening.
