Fire chief dies of injuries suffered in icy crash

A veteran volunteer fire chief died Wednesday night at a Little Rock hospital from complications after a line-of-duty crash earlier this month.

Oak Grove Fire Chief Randy Pogue, 49, had been in critical condition since a Feb. 2 crash just a few miles south of Maumelle.

According to state police officials, Pogue was driving an Oak Grove firetruck on a call shortly after noon on sleet-slicked Arkansas 365 when he lost control and crashed into a ditch, breaking his back.

Pogue has been a volunteer with the Oak Grove department since 2001, according to county officials, and also worked as an auto/ diesel mechanic supervisor for the Arkansas State Police.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

There will be an autopsy because Pogue’s death occurred in the line of duty, officials said.
