JONESBORO - A Jonesboro woman who police said smashed her 5-month-old boy’s head against a door frame in June because he would not stop crying pleaded guilty to first-degree battery Tuesday in Craighead County Circuit Court.
Circuit Judge David Gipson sentenced Victoria Madden, 22, to 22 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, followed by 10 years of a suspended sentence, said Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington.
Police said Madden told them she was frustrated when her baby would not stop crying and slammed his head in the frame of a door on June 5. Authorities took the baby to a Jonesboro hospital and then transported him to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, where he was treated for severe skull fractures.
Madden’s public defender, Dax Greer, did not return a telephone message seeking comment Wednesday.
