FOOTBALL 2 Hogs suspended for a week

Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema said Thursdy that sophomore offensive guard Mitch Smothers and sophomore wide receiver D’Arthur Cowan have been suspended for a week, barring them from any team-related activities.

Bielema said before speaking to the White County Razorback Club in Searcy that he had told the players to “figure things out and come back.”

“Certain kids, you can run them all you want, you can log roll them, you can get them up and do whatever you want to them, but the thing that really matters is when you take the game away from them,” Bielema said.

Bielema announced a similar suspension Feb. 10 to freshman running back Alex Collins, who returned from suspension last week.

Cowan caught 4 passes for 26 yards in 2013, and Smothers started the first four games at guard.

Rodgers, who was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which goes to the top player in NCAA Division II, was named to several All-America teams and was named the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

He has been involved in numerous charities and is enrolled in graduate school.
