LANTERNS! WINTER FESTIVAL

Light up the night

Lakeside event explores the world in food and culture

Luminarias lined the pathways to the different vistas around a lake where couples and families could enjoy food and cultural activities from Asia, Jamaica, Mexico, New Orleans, Rome and Shakespeare’s Elizabethan England on Valentine’s evening. Feb. 14 was opening night of Lanterns!, Wildwood Park for the Arts’ Outdoor Winter Festival.

As revelers traveled around the world, they could partake in a variety of activities, including limbo contests, listening to jazz by Clyde Pound and Jane Mages, and calligraphy lessons. Food for sale included hot and sour soup, jerk chicken wings, smoked turkey legs and beignets. Fire pits and seating provided places to warm up and enjoy the view of the lake, which was lighted by a large floating moon balloon.

This is the sixth year for the three-day festival.
