Mardi Gras parade to be held for dogs

The Argenta Arts District will hold the Mardi Grasthemed Argenta Krewe of Barkus Parade and Block Party, a one-float parade for costumed dogs with their similarly attired owners, at 3 p.m. Sunday in North Little Rock.

North Little Rock’s event, the fifth annual Barkus Parade, will start at Fifth and Maple streets in Argenta and include games, live music, prizes and Mardi Gras beads. The event is free.

Those seeking more information can visit the Argenta Krewe of Barkus’ Facebook page.

The event is based on New Orleans’ Krewe of Barkus formed in 1992 - a takeoff from the Krewe of Bacchus, a Mardi Gras parade named for the Roman god of wine and vegetation. The New Orleans Barkus event, which leads costumed dogs on a parade route through the city’s French Quarter, is being held today.
