Commission to host small game seminar

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a seminar on managing property for quail and rabbits from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Central Arkansas Nature Center in Little Rock.

The seminar will examine the decline of quail and cottontail rabbit populations in Arkansas. Commission wildlife biologists also will explain how landowners can manage properties of 40 or more acres to benefit quail and rabbits. They also will explain cost-share incentives that the AGFC can provide to landowners, hunting clubs and lease owners.

Crappie fishing seminar hosted by Nature Center

Keith Sutton of Alexander, a nationally published writer, will host a free crappie fishing seminar at the Central Arkansas Nature Center in Little Rock from 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 18.

Boat, tackle, RV show coming to Hot Springs

The Hot Springs Convention Center will host the 28th annual Boat, Tackle and RV Show from Friday through Sunday.

Attendees will be able to purchase the latest sport, fishing and pleasure boats, recreational vehicles and fishing tackle. Exhibitors also will have RV and boating accessories, docks and other equipment.

Show hours will be 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, and free for ages 12 and under.

Turkey calling contest Saturday in Stuttgart

The World Championship Turkey Calling Contest will be held Saturday at Mack’s Prairie Wings in Stuttgart.

The contest will feature seven divisions, including an Arkansas State Championship that only state residents can enter. Winners of the open and state contests will automatically qualify for the Grand National Turkey Calling Contest held annually at the National Wild Turkey Federation’s annual convention.

Also, several well-known turkey hunters will give calling seminars, including Paul Butski, Eddie Salter, Preston Pittman, Matt Morrett and Mark Coins. Wally Marshall also will give a crappie fishing seminar.
