Weather forecasters predict light sleet or snow in Northwest Arkansas on Friday and wintry precipitation in north Arkansas on Sunday.

On Friday, the northwest part of the state could see light sleet and snow in the morning, and the precipitation could spread into the north and central parts of the state by midday, National Weather Service meteorologist John Robinson said Wednesday.

Forecasters are keeping a "very close eye on Sunday and Sunday night," he said, explaining that a cold front will be moving through the state then, bringing a good chance of freezing rain and sleet in north Arkansas, particularly in the afternoon into night.

"Sunday into Sunday night could very well end up being a case where we see winter weather in the north and thunder in the south," Robinson said.

Rain totals, to include rain plus melted ice and snow, will generally range from 3/4 inch to 1 3/4 inch, but some parts of south Arkansas could see up to 3 inches, he added.
