Fishing this week

HOT SPOTS

LAKE CATHERINE Rainbow trout fishing is excellent using redworms or wax worms just off the bottom with a marshmallow floater. Whole kernel corn has been very effective. Spin fishermen have done well casting Super Dupers and Little Cleos in silver or gold. Gray or white jigs are effective in current. Fly fishermen are using micro jigs and small streamers in black or white. Walleye are being caught below the bridge on night crawler rigs and Carolina rigs tipped with live minnows.

LAKE DARDANELLE Crappie are being caught in the narrows of Shoal Bay, Piney Bay and the strip pits in the back of Illinois Bayou. Bass fishing has been excellent using Alabama rigs, jerk baits, spinnerbaits and jigs. Striped bass can be taken at the outlet of Nuclear One. Bream are being caught in creeks around stumps. Catfish can be caught in the creeks using liver and worms.

LAKE FRIERSON Some nice bass have been caught using jigs with trailers in black/blue and coffee colors. Saugeye are hitting white crankbaits and jerk baits around the levee and on points near deeper water. Crappie are on the move and are being caught on minnows if you can find the right depths.

LAKE MAUMELLE Largemouth bass are biting well on jigs and jerk baits fished in 5-10 feet of water. Spotted bass are biting well on white jigs and spoons fished in 20-25 feet of water. White bass fishing is excellent around the Arkansas 10 bridge on the west side of the lake using shad-imitating crankbaits and jigs. Crappie are biting fairly well on jigs fished around brush at the edge of the river channel in 25-30 feet of water. Bream fishing is fair on jigs and live worms fished 25-30 feet deep around brush.

WHITE RIVER Brown trout are being caught on white jigs. Rainbow trout are biting well on night crawlers and Power Bait, but frozen shrimp seems to be the best bait lately. The hot flies have been olive Woolly Buggers, Y2Ks, prince nymphs, zebra midges, pheasant tails, ruby midges, pink and cerise San Juan worms and sowbugs.
