The eagle’s body was found in the Mount Magazine Wild Life Management Area near Shoal Creek Road, according to a statement from the Fish and Wildlife Service.

Investigators believe the eagle was shot between Jan. 20 and Jan. 30. Both of the eagle’s feet had been cut off, according to the statement.

The Fish and Wildlife Service, Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust are jointly offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for killing the eagle.

The bald eagle is protected under several pieces of federal legislation, including the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

A conviction of violating either of these acts can lead to penalties of $100,000 and one year in federal prison.

Anyone with information should contact Special Agent Jason Keith of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at (501) 324-5643 or the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission at (800) 482-9262.
