Texarkana man killed in two-vehicle wreck

One man is dead after the car he was driving wrecked along U.S. 71 in southwest Arkansas.

According to a report from the Arkansas State Police, Allen Graves, 61, of Texarkana was killed when he drove over some ice in his 1996 Ford Thunderbird when he attempted to pass someone while traveling southbound on the roadway in Ogden on Tuesday morning.

Driving over the ice caused Graves to lose control of his car and hit the outside guardrail. The car then crossed both lanes of traffic and hit the inside guardrail of the road. The Chevrolet pickup truck that Graves was attempting to pass then collided with the left side of car. Graves was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second car, James E. Johnson II, 55, was injured in the crash, according to the report, though his current condition is unknown. Fog was present in the area at the time of the accident, according to the report, with icy road conditions.

Graves became the 473rd fatality on Arkansas roadways in 2013.
